We are currently in need of a Mechanical Operator for our Midwest Cucumber Division in Sturgis, MI. The Mechanical Operator will assist in the facility’s primary and preventive mechanical maintenance issues, operate tractors & harvesters, and assist Lead with repairs as needed. Work will be in the Sturgis growing area and limited travel to the Seymour, Indiana fields. During off season, operator will be responsible for the winterizing and overhauling of all equipment. Overtime will be mandatory during harvest.

Responsibilities:

• All Mechanical Operators will be required to know ALL operating functions of equipment on the premises, including Planters, Harvesters, and other farm equipment. (training provided on specialty equipment).
• Seasonal maintenance at the Sturgis facility, including light building and grounds maintenance.
• Prepare for seasonal inspections and corrections to follow, if needed.
• Inspect equipment, noting major safety and/or breakdown issues. Report findings to the Lead Mechanical Technician at the facility.
• Complete and log all preventative maintenance activities.
• Ensure all equipment is in good working order at the start of each season.
• Comply with company and customer regulations and policies.
• Assist operators in the field with equipment breakdowns.
• Continually monitor and report all health, safety and food safety or deviations to supervisory management.
• Establish and foster strong working relationships with all team members.
• Meet deadlines as established by managers and seasonal demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum 1- year operating experience with farm or heavy equipment.
• Basic knowledge of with maintenance and repairs of hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Candidate MUST be a self-motivated and detail-oriented person with high drive to be able to focus in a high tempo environment with ability to adapt to changing situations with short notice.
• Travel as needed in fields around Sturgis and limited travel to Seymour, IN.
• Knowledgeable in welding and fabrication techniques is a plus.
• Basic understanding of 12-volt electrical.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal, and planning. Organizational skills a must.
• Bilingual skills favorable.
• Must have knowledge of health, safety and food safety standards pertaining to the agricultural infrastructure (training provided).
• Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
