<p><strong>Job Description</strong></p><ul><li>We are looking for a Server L2 Unix Engineer who will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting Unix server environments, with a specific focus on Solaris systems.</li><li>This role involves ensuring the stability, security, and performance of the Unix infrastructure and providing Level 2 support for server-related incidents.</li></ul><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong><br />Unix Server Administration:</p><ul><li>Manage and maintain Unix Solaris servers, ensuring high availability and system performance.</li><li>Perform routine server maintenance, software updates, and patching to maintain system security and stability.</li><li>Configure and manage server resources, including file systems, storage allocations, and network configurations.</li></ul><p>Incident Management and Troubleshooting:</p><ul><li>Provide Level 2 support for Unix Solaris environments, resolving escalated issues from Level 1 support.</li><li>Troubleshoot and diagnose system errors, hardware failures, and application issues on Solaris servers.</li><li>Escalate critical issues to Level 3 support or external vendors when necessary.</li></ul><p>Performance Monitoring and Optimization:</p><ul><li>Monitor server performance and system logs to identify potential issues or areas for improvement.</li><li>Implement performance tuning and optimization techniques to ensure efficient operation of Solaris servers.</li><li>Utilize monitoring tools to track system health, resource utilization, and capacity planning.</li></ul><p>Security and Compliance:</p><ul><li>Ensure Unix systems meet security and compliance standards by implementing necessary access controls and security patches.</li><li>Conduct routine security audits and vulnerability assessments on Solaris servers.</li><li>Document and manage security incidents, following established protocols for incident response.</li></ul><p>Documentation and Collaboration:</p><ul><li>Document server configurations, processes, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions for future reference.</li><li>Work collaboratively with other IT teams, including network, storage, and application support teams, to support cross-functional initiatives.</li><li>Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders regarding system status, planned maintenance, and incidents.</li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Education: Bachelor&#39;s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.</li><li>Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in Unix server administration, specifically with Solaris systems, with at least 1-2 years in an L2 support role.</li><li>Certifications: Solaris certification or equivalent Unix certifications are a plus.</li></ul><p>Skills and Competencies:<br />Technical Skills:</p><ul><li>Proficiency with Unix operating systems, especially Solaris.</li><li>Strong knowledge of Unix shell scripting e.g., Bash, KornShell for automation and task management.</li><li>Experience with Solaris Zones, Logical Domains LDOMs, and other Solaris virtualization technologies.</li><li>Familiarity with server monitoring tools e.g., Nagios, Zabbix and logging systems.</li><li>Understanding of network protocols TCP/IP, DNS, NFS and basic networking concepts.</li></ul><p>Soft Skills:</p><ul><li>Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.</li><li>Strong communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical team members.</li><li>Detail-oriented with solid organizational skills to manage documentation and prioritize tasks effectively.</li></ul>
