Position Summary

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Chef/Cleaner who can deliver quality meals and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization within our home. This unique role is ideal for a professional who can balance culinary duties with a commitment to cleanliness and hygiene in all areas. The Chef/Cleaner will be responsible for food preparation, general cleaning, and laundry tasks, ensuring an overall warm and welcoming environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesCulinary Duties

  • Menu Planning and Preparation: Prepare and serve meals in line with menu specifications, taking into account any dietary restrictions and preferences of clients. Tailor recipes to ensure nutritional needs are met, and present food in a visually appealing manner.
  • Ingredient Management: Track inventory, monitor freshness of ingredients, and arrange timely orders. Handle ingredient storage to ensure freshness and reduce waste.
  • Sanitation and Safety: Uphold food safety and hygiene standards, ensuring the kitchen area is compliant with regulations. Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, cookware, and utensils after each use.
  • Adaptability: Adjust meals according to specific dietary restrictions, seasonal ingredients, and special events. Assist with planning and executing special meals, holiday spreads, or other catered events as needed.

Cleaning Duties

  • General Cleaning: Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of high-traffic areas, such as the kitchen, dining rooms, hallways, and common areas, to maintain a healthy and inviting environment.
  • Deep Cleaning: Execute a scheduled deep cleaning regimen for appliances, windows, and other hard-to-reach areas as needed to ensure a thorough and detailed upkeep.
  • Restroom Maintenance: Clean and disinfect restrooms as assigned, replenish supplies, and ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Waste Management: Safely dispose of waste and recyclables, ensuring compliance with environmental standards and effective waste separation.

Laundry Duties

  • Washing and Drying: Sort and wash clothes, linens, and other fabrics using appropriate washing cycles. Handle delicate fabrics and special care items with attention to specific instructions.
  • Ironing and Folding: Iron and fold clothes and linens to ensure they are wrinkle-free and neatly presented. Organize items in a way that is accessible and keeps spaces uncluttered.
  • Inventory Management: Track and replenish laundry supplies (detergents, softeners, etc.) as needed. Maintain the laundry area clean, organized, and free from clutter.
  • Minor Repairs: Conduct minor mending and repairs (buttons, hems, etc.) as necessary, notifying management of any larger issues that require attention.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: Proven experience as a chef, cook, or kitchen assistant; previous cleaning and laundry experience is a plus.
  • Food Safety and Hygiene Knowledge: Understanding of food safety standards and sanitation practices (HACCP certification or equivalent preferred).
  • Organization and Time Management: Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to handle the physical demands of the role, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to take on a variety of tasks as needs arise and adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and respond to any specific needs or feedback.
  • Flexibility: Availability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as needed.

Working Conditions

  • Physical Requirements: This role involves extended periods of standing, bending, and lifting objects to 20 lbs. Cleaning and laundry tasks require manual handling and repetitive motions.
  • Work Environment: Fast-paced and occasionally high-pressure, particularly during peak meal times and event preparations.
  • Hours: Flexible hours with potential for overtime during busy periods or special events. The schedule may vary depending on the needs of the home.
